The Patrons Tour

This tour allows our Patrons an exclusive look into the Vatican Museums offered as a benefit of being a part of our community; the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums.
Patron members can anticipate a private guide and early access into the Museums, before the doors are open to the public. Once inside, the guided tour will take our Patrons straight to the Sistine Chapel where one can marvel at Michelangelo's iconic masterpiece. The tour will then proceed through the Raphael Rooms (where the legendary "School of Athens" is also located), through the exquisite Borgia Apartments, and down the magnificent Gallery of Maps before continuing on to see and experience the other innumerable treasures contained within the Vatican Museums.

Your two and a half hour tour will end with an optional visit to the Patrons' Office (upon request). To make your time in the Vatican Museums more personalized and memorable, you may select an additional tour out of one of the following Vatican spaces: the Vatican Gardens, the Santa Rosa Necropoli, or the Carriage Museum.

Restoration Labs - *Important: see note below*: Our seven different restoration laboratories are state of the art facilities that restore some of the most important artwork in the history of art located in the Vatican Museums. In the laboratories, visitors will receive an exclusive opportunity to observe the work being done on active restoration projects, many of which are sponsored by our Patrons. Visitors will also have the chance to speak with Vatican restorers and learn of the fascinating restoration techniques and technologies they emply that bring beautiful masterpieces back to life. Based on the day of the week the Patron has this your, Patrons will visit one of the following laboratories:
Ceramic & Metal Laboratory Marble Laboratory Mosaic Laboratory Painting and Laboratory (open on Tuesday mornings only) Paper Laboratory Scientific Research Laboratory
Vatican Gardens: A tour through the beautiful Papal Gardens contained within the Vatican walls. Visitors can expect to see a closeup of the Casina Pius IV, sprawling greens littered with timeless statues of antiquity, and hear the soothing sounds of fountains flowing throughout the private grounds. Santa Rosa Necropoli: this tour will take visitors to the site of the largest archaeological excavation of the 21st century, an extensive burial ground of approximately forty tombs and two hundred graves of lower and middle class Roman citizens from the time of St. Peter and earlier. Visitors will cross over the dig on elevated catwalks to receive an immersive view of the site, have an opportunity to read the anecdotal inscriptions on the graves and marvel at the underground world rediscovered. Carriage Museum: A tour through this museum of carriages and cars chronicles Papal transport. The newly restored exhibition includes a variety of historical and notable pieces from the jeep Blessed Pope John Paul II was travelling in when he was shot in 1981 (video on display of the event for viewing) to an immense horse-drawn carriage made in 1826. "The Patrons Tour" is plenty already.
*Important: The Restoration Labs*

Visitation to the restoration laboratories is available weekdays between 10:30am and 12:00pm. The Painting Laboratory is open to visitors on Tuesday mornings only. The laboratory chosen for the tour depends on the day of the week, as different laboratories are open for visitation on different weekdays. Due to limited space and availability in the laboratories, the group for this tour may not exceed more than ten individuals.

We value your membership and every effort will be made to accomodate your requests. The Labs are extremely busy and interruptions need to be limited - as a result, your tour is based on availability.

VISITING POLICY

This form is a request to visit the Vatican Museums through the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums Office. Confirmation will be sent after the information provided in this form has been processed and arrangements have been finalized.

Guided tours are limited to active patrons only (personal and non-transferable). Non-Patron individuals will not be permitted access to the Vatican Museums and will be directed to the Office of Information and Tourism in St. Peter's Square instead. Tour requests can only be guaranteed when the Vatican Office of the Patrons is notified at least three weeks in advance.

IMPORTANT:

Tours of St. Peter's Basilica and the "Scavi," excavations beneath the Basilica are not handled by the Patrons. However, The Vatican Patrons office would be happy to suggest guides for Saint Peter's Basilica upon request. For tours of the Scavi under Saint Peter's, please contact the Ufficio Scavi at scavi@fsp.va. Tel: +39-06-6988-5318 Fax: +39-06-6988-5518. In your request, it may help to specify that you belong to the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums.

DRESS CODE: Please be mindful of the dresscode rules in the Vatican. Entry to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Gardens is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors. Low cut or sleeveless clothing, shorts, miniskirts and hats are not allowed.
